It is said that long ago, in the age before men had tamed the beasts and the gods were young, there was dissension in the heavens. A single god desired to have ultimate power: to rule over all other deities.

Thus began a great battle; fire rained down from the sky, mountains were raised by the impact of the god's weapons, and holy blood fell from the heavens. The wise men say that we still hear the echoes of that battle today, whenever a storm comes nigh. In the end, though, the presumptuous deity was defeated. As punishment for his hubris, he was cast down to the earth to live among men, and his immortality was stripped from him, so that he would eventually grow old and die as men do. For this reason, he became known as "The Dead God."

The Dead God's thirst to rule had not been quenched, though. While he could not rule the heaven's, he could still rule in the land of men. He begin a bloody conquest which lasted two score and ten years. He built an empire which spanned all the known lands and some beyond. He ruled with an iron fist, caring not whether he shed the blood of a villainous thief or an innocent babe.

Eventually, though, the Dead God's punishment caught up with him, and he fulfilled the prophecy of his name. When he passed, the people rejoiced and as one they revolted against the empire he had built. The kingdom which had taken half a century to build was torn down in a single night

There were those among the men who realized that where once an evil empire had been, so could another rise in it's place. They decided to form a society to watch for evil and prevent it's rule. Thus began the Keepers of Lore.

In order to keep others of evil intent from using the remnants of the Dead God's power, they took his artifacts of magic and hid them throughout the land. Chief among these was the Dead God's staff, with which he controlled the four elements. The Keepers of Lore broke the staff into four pieces and hid each in a different corner of the land. They set guardians to watch over them, then destroyed all records of their whereabouts.

Now, though, a new threat has arisen in the lands. An evil society of necromancers, the Stalkers, has begun searching for the Dead God's staff. Their dark magic gives them great powers, and if they should recover the Dead God's staff, they will surely be able to conquer the world.

You must seek out and recover the pieces of the Dead God's staff before the Stalkers do. Then, using it's power, you must destroy the Stalkers so that they will not threaten the land again.

Installation

1. Download the Staff.zip file and unrar Staff.w3c to your default Warlords III: Darklords Rising directory, usually this can be found under /Program Files/Red Orb Zone/Warlords III - Darklords Rising.

2. Open the Warlords III Campaign Editor and unpack staff.w3c.

3. Launch Darklords Rising, select Single Player game mode, and then New Campaign from the main menu. You will find the Campaign (Dead God's Staff) under "Miscellaneous".
