TOPIC: Unable to pick up "Magic items" in Warlords IV
Re: Unable to pick up "Magic items" in Warlords IV 10 years, 9 months ago #1150
Hi KGB. Thanks for your reply.
When I load Warlords everything seems to go alright. The Warlord name is OK on the load screen. However I do not see any mention of the version on the lower left of my main screen. The date of my Warlords IV game is 19-9-2003. Having rechecked my patches I noticed that I had patch 105 (dated 10-7-2007) loaded in my Warlords folder and I presume that it must have been loaded automatically when starting Warlords. I also noticed that I had another patch 105 (dated 11-7-2011) but still in zip form. So I removed the older patch to a sub-folder and unzipped the newer one. But I still can not pick up magic items without the game freezing. Sorry that I can not give you better news and to occupy your time so much. Best regards, Gus |

Gus,
At the main menu (where you select Single player, Multi Player, Campaign, Load Game etc) in the lower left corner it shows the version you are running. Ideally you are running 1.05 or later. If the date of your Warlords game (the Warlords4.exe file) is 2003 it sounds like you are running the original game (1.02) and not any of the updates I created. You have to actually install the patches. You can't just place them in the Warlords folder. You must run them in order to go through an install process that updates the game to 1.05. The 1.05A and 1.05B patches just contain a Warlords4.exe file you copy over the existing Warlords4.exe file. KGB |

Hello KGB.
My apologies for the late reply but I had to go to the hospital in Bangkok twice for injections in my left eye to treat central ocular vein occlusion. By the time I got back to Muak Lek Nai I was exhausted and with pain in my eye. Today I feel better and can type with one eye closed. I have since discovered that the version of my Warlords is 1.00. I run into problems though when trying to install the patches. After installing and running the game I hit "Ctrl" and "Esc" to get back to my desktop and then I click on the patch, which is in the same folder as the game and get the message that I need to install Warlords first. Is there any other way to install patches? Best regards, Gus |

See this link
www.warlorders.com/warlords4/technical-support/war4-install-d2d Do the steps under Registry Settings. You can ignore the ones under Copy Protection. KGB |

Hi KGB, Thanks very much for your response and the support.
Unfortunately I ran into other problems which I have tried to solve. My Registry already had Warlords entries but with a different location. They used drive F whereas I had installed Warlords in drive G. Consequently I could not follow the instructions. After some thought I decided to "cut" the G installation and to copy it to drive F. The result was that the registry entry showed the correct address. I closed the Registry and tried to ply Warlords. It opened as usual but the main menu page did not show any text but only empty labels. I then tried to install patch 103. First I had to install a new version of the Java program. After that it seemed to work but when opening Warlords I got the same problem as outlined above. I also got a message that patch 103 was not installed. So I am back in square one but without a ball and a racquet. I think I shall have to try to find a genuine copy of Warlords. Sorry for all the trouble I gave you. Kind regards, Gus |

Hello KGB, I am sorry to have to bother you again. Hope you are not getting tired of me and my problem.
I went to my computer shop to ask if they could install Windows XP on my hard drive "F". But they said it was not possible. Yet I remember that some years ago it was possible to have two versions of Windows installed, with a batch file that gave you the opportunity to choose. Even today, if the computer has been closed in an unusual way, a batch file pops up with choices of how to start Windows again. Anyway I got an old computer and installed Warlords IV on it and it worked. Started a campaign with a new warlord which went fine. Had to save the game last night and tried to start again this morning and am getting this message: The procedure entry point _FSOUNDUpdate@0 could not be located in the dynamic link library fmod.dll. Tried to check the fmod.dll file but it is okay. Now I am stumped again and wonder if there is a way to solve this. Kind regards, Gus |

Gus,
I don't think it is possible to install windows twice on one drive. I know you are talking about dual-booting. I don't think that is supported on XP or later. It only worked on Win 98 and earlier. These days everyone uses a virtual machine if they want a 2nd Windows installation (what you see after an unusual close is windows asking about options to fix windows, not to boot another version of windows). Is the fsound error occurring when you attempt to start War4 or when you attempt to reload your save game? That kind of error usually indicates you have an old fmod.dll file that is out of date or you are using a new one that doesn't work with war4. How old is the PC you installed War4 on? Could that be the problem. I would recommend updating fmod.dll. KGB |

Hello KGB.
You may find this a bit hard to believe but I assure you it is the truth. Getting somewhat tired of the problem, not being able to pick up magic items etc. I just tried to use the compatibility test about six or seven times and after that ran the program and it worked beautifully. I don't know what I did right and what I did wrong all the previous times but it works now, at least for the past four days. For how long it will last I don't know but we'll see. BTW my computer is fairly new, about 1½ years. I must thank you for all the patience with which you have responded to all my emails. Best regards, Gus |
