Hi all,

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to start a thread with a continuously updated list of games that are currently going on - listing the players in the particular games, and any other interesting bits of information. At the end of a game it would be nice to have a little status report. Who won, who came in second, significant events or battles that took place. Would anyone object to this? And also, would anyone be willing to participate in contributing by continuously adding any games they are involved in?

I imagine that when someone browses the forums they are left with the impression that the community is more or less dead - with no games going on. That is a great shame at a time when it is more important than ever to be able to attract new players and bring old players back into the fold.

Perhaps it could even be something that featured more prominently on the site. KGB, would you have any interest in that? And do you see a feasible way of doing it?

Good idea. It could easily be done in this thread. Just need to make a post for every on-going game listing scenario/map, start date, players, and game rules. Then just edit the post as players are eliminated. Obviously every such post must be made by a participating player that cares enough to keep it updated. It would without a doubt become the most visited thread on the forum.

i have started to work on the last citadel project two years ago or so but it has procrastinated. i'm planning to revitalize it in this year.

the goal is to create a web interface to organize games and monitor active players and games going on. it supposed to be Warlords Universal 2 if you have ever been to that site (now dead).

I would be interested in seeing the status of games going on and stuff.

Molotov, I do remember Warlords Universal. It did a lot for PBEM-Warlords at the time, and I played a bunch of one-on-one games - mostly against Russian players. I've often wondered what happened to the Russian Warlords community which seemed quite large then. Of course, it could be that the Russian Warlords community is alive and well "in another dimension"?

As far as I remember, the trend at the time was to play "mirror games", with each match consisting of two games played out on the same random map, with the starting positions reversed in the second game to even out any imbalances of the map. The result of the match was then recorded in a ranking system by the loser reporting the defeat. I thought that was a fun concept, and I would love to see it revived.

It would be great if you could get the Last Citadel up and running, but perhaps an alternative could be something that was tied into Warlorders.com with the help of KGB and Onslaught, and perhaps others. I know there are lots of possibilities with Joomla, and, considering the very limited size of the Warlords community, it would be great to have all the Warlords resources together on one site.

Whatever the solution is, I think it is essential that it is something that is well backed up and can be easily transfered to someone else if you - or anyone else responsible - lose interest or no longer has time to maintain it. Preferably the responsibility and maintenance of the solution would be shared among several people.

Using this thread is a good suggestion, but I just got another idea that is a bit more ambitious. Perhaps too ambitious

How about having a board category dedicated to ongoing games? Then we could have a thread for each major game. All the players would then subscribe to that thread, and all the communication meant for all players should then be posted in the thread rather than sent by email. In that way, all the players subscribing to the thread would still receive all messages in an email, and they would only need to visit the thread when they had something to say.

It has the potential of creating a lot of life in the forum, and I also think it would encourage more banter. A place for taunts, screenshots, praise, roleplaying - and after the end of a game there'd be a good place to discuss how the game went. Regrets, unfair quests, great battles, etc.

I would find such game threads very interesting - even for games I wasn't involved in myself.

Again, it does require that players are enthusiastic about the whole concept.

though on Warlords Universal for example ppl could leave a comment with their lose report and the most popular comment was two letters: GG.

OFC not everyone will document his games.
But as for me I do this sometimes just for myself, it helps in planning a game strategy and not to forget something important between turns. I also make hero battle screenshots alwayes.

For players communication on the forum it would be great to have a possibility to post messages with restricted visibility so one could leave a secret message to another players(s); and after a battle gets decided all secret messages get revealed.

I have created a category for this purpose now and have already posted the games I am currently playing in. The category Ongoing PBEM Games is a sub category to this forum category and can be find on top of the topics.

As you can see, the format for a thread is:

Scenario - Game name - Number of Players - Rules

Within the post, make sure to list start date for game, current turn the game is on, all original players and the current status of the game. Who are still in the game and who are eliminated. Players should feel free to post lengthy banters as the game progresses. Feel free to attach screenshots but try to compress them and keep them small. The bare minimum is to update the thread when players are eliminated and to post a screenshot of map on those few occassions. Screenshots of cities, armies and gold would be welcome as well. And of decisive hero battles of course.

I couldn't be more pleased! Now it is up to all the rest of us to really get the category and current threads going. I'll be sure to encourage everyone to subscribe to the category - and the whole Email/Online category while they're at it
