TOPIC: Problems running the game under Win7

The Other,
Glad you finally got it working. I realized later that I had it backwards. You must have compatibility OFF as you found out. You need it ON to play online lan/internet games. It's strange you need to turn it OFF to get those scenario's to work once you load them. But I recall a long time ago someone saying something similar to that when they wanted to play scenario games online, that they had to load the scenario, save, exit, change some settings then restart. So maybe you need to do that for Win 7 too. There is another thread here where someone has figured out the problem is related to explorer.exe and they made a batch file to stop it and restart it after finishing with DLR. I know at least one other Warlord has confirmed this works with his Win 7. As for the shortcut, I have no idea why that works either. Maybe something changed in Win 7 compared to XP. All I know is I don't have any quotations marks at all in my shortcut. KGB P.S. One more thing. How are you able to run from C:\program files (admin mode? explicit permission)? I know Win 7 by default prevents programs from writing there to avoid virus issues. DLR must write into it's directory for saved games. So I usually advise people to NOT place DLR in C:\program files, but in your My Documents folder or just off the root as C:\DLR (I think this helps because DLR is so old it doesn't handle long file names. |

I've never had any issue running things from Program Files - off the top of my head, I have at least a dozen games and other applications in that folder, and have never noticed any problem. I got this computer second-hand - the guy who owned it before might have applied some setting that allows this? Like I said before, I'm not very technically-minded, and frankly I don't have a clue how/why computers do anything!
In the case of DLR specifically, I did click 'Run as administrator' - but I haven't done this for various other programs, all of which seem to work fine. All very peculiar... |
