TOPIC: help with mp game (ntdll.dll)
help with mp game (ntdll.dll) 12 years, 8 months ago #868
Hello,
Fresh blood here. Just recently picked up this great game (used to play the reign of heroes in the past, now tried for the first time DLR). And right now i'm trying to set up a multiplayer game. Error I'm facing: whenever starting a multiplayer game (tcp/ip) when im in menu, after the game gets synchronised it crashes. Happens regardless if im the host or the client. In details of the error message there is something about ntdll.dll. System: I'm using win XP, service pack 3. Except this one error the game runs flawlessly (i'm using the -wincursor thingy) Thing's I've tried and funny results: Ok, so the most funny thing is i was trying to test the game using my gf's laptop, which also runs winxp service pack 3 - and on her computer the game doesn't crash (neither when hosting nor when connecting to). I checked the ntdll.dll files in windows/system32 and it is different from the one on my PC. I can try copying that file to my pc to see what happens, but i left this option as my last resort. So far i tried copying the file to the warlord's directory (I thought dlls are first loaded from the same directory the exe is and then from the system) but it didnt help. Another thing is that i can just set the compatibility mode to win98 or win95 for warlords, and then i can play multiplayer just fine. No crash or anything. But when i do that, I cant load any of the scenarios. I can only play random maps. Scenarios just take a lot of computer 'thinking time' and when it unfreezes, the map listing is empty. Can someone help me with this? ![]() Thanks! ![]() |

Yup, that's normal. neffu wrote: Another thing is that i can just set the compatibility mode to win98 or win95 for warlords, and then i can play multiplayer just fine. No crash or anything. Yup, that's normal too. By normal I mean everyone I know with XP experiences these exact 2 things. You have 3 choices: 1) Accept things they way they are. Most players who play MP just play random maps so they don't care if the scenarios don't load. 2) Try the .dll from your girlfriends laptop (never heard of this before). It's risky as hell because it may make some other program crash. 3) Use a virtual machine of Win98/Win2000 which doesn't have this problem. There are threads here devoted to that topic so search around and you'll see hints as to what you need to do if you go that route. KGB |
