TOPIC: Red Background for custom unit
Red Background for custom unit 12 years, 8 months ago #848
I created a new sprite for the custom unit I am working on using GIMP and the background of the unit appears to show up as red. I know that the magenta is the background is some kind of special magenta, but what exactly is it that is going on and how to I fix/avoid it?

i am using Gimp too. it appears that there's a number of magenta colors in DLR palette, but a transparent one is only #11. whereas, when you save, Gimp sets #1 (afair) for all magenta on your pic. I use HEX editor after saving a pic, to replace those values (01 -> 0b). 01 bytes before address 128 should not be replaced though, as its a header area.

So what is this HEX editor and how do I get it? |

You can google it, there's many free hex editors around the web. There's also a built-in one in the Notepad++ program, if you use it.
Alternatively you can try my program i've just written: Run it, then type a path to a PCX file, or just a file name if you placed the program in a same directory with the file. Or use "open with" context menu to feed a file to the program. |

Molotov, your PCX fixer appears to have turned my image into a wreck that doesn't work. I've replaced it with a backup but I can't seem to find a backup for the latest (dodgy version of the image).
When I try the old version, the PCX fixer fixes my image by wrecking the bottom mostly, the bottom images (the one's with the green line around them) are completely destroyed, the others untouched except from a bit of damage done to the bottom left images. |

Uh, i'm very sorry!
I had to test it better. Can you send me your image? i can also automate a green border. p.s.: this is a new version, i've tested it and it works properly |

"Attachment lifeelemold.PCX not found"
try sendspace.com, or maybe files should be zipped before uploading to this forum... |
