Crashes with Win Vista 12 years, 9 months ago #791
Hey Warlorders!
I am so glad about finding this forum! First i am sorry about my english, I am from Germany and hope you can understand it (but i think it's not that terrible i thought ![]() Some years ago I get an original CD of Warlords III Darlords Rising. I installed it on my Win 98 and it worked without any problems. Now this old PC is "dead". I wanted to install DLR on my Win 7 64-bit System but I only got the Screen that this .exe isnt compatible with my 64-bit System. I tried the compatibility modes and the -wincursor, but it didnt work. So now i have an 5 yeah old notebook with Win Vista 32-bit. I installed the game from CD - no problems. I tried to run it with the compatibility to Win 98 and 95, but the game always crashed after i clicked in the menu "New scenario" with the typical text "Warlords3.exe has stopped workung...". I tried again with the compatibility settings set to Win 2000, then it worked until the game itself start and crashed again. Now i set to Win XP and 256 colors and a screen of 1024x7**? I got the problem that some of the scenario-maps are loading and working and some crashes after loading. Do someone know what i else can do to stop the crashes? I also got the problem that sometimes (after 10-30 minutes) the colors changes into something real strange (looks like a pink bucket of pixels flashes over my screen^^). I read in this forum that there is no fix =( Only restarting the game help. I told you i got the original CD, did it help to install the updates i saw at the main-Page of this site? Hope you guys can help me. Greetings Depa |

Depa,
The Installer program for DLR is only 16 bit. No 64 bit Operating system can use it to install the game. This is why everyone recommends installing the game on another computer and then copying it to your 64 bit machine using a USB drive. Or download the game from that link in another thread that I see you already found. Once you have the game on your 64 bit machine you can then use the -wincursor option to run it. I tried to run it with the compatibility to Win 98 and 95, but the game always crashed after i clicked in the menu "New scenario" with the typical text "Warlords3.exe has stopped workung...". Do NOT enable any compatibility mode. That will prevent you from loading scenarios or campaigns. The game will hang or crash if you do that. All you need is the -wincursor option. Some people need a -nosound option but that is very rare. I also got the problem that sometimes (after 10-30 minutes) the colors changes into something real strange (looks like a pink bucket of pixels flashes over my screen^^). I read in this forum that there is no fix =( Only restarting the game help Correct. There is no fix yet because no one quite understands why it happens. That other thread described a method to avoid it but it's difficult to do. I think it happens because you are running in widescreen resolutions and Windows can't translate DLR properly to widescreen. But that is only a guess. KGB |

I run in Windows 7 and I always get the color bug upon starting the game. However, by loading a saved game and after that go back to the main menu or load a game again, the color will return to normal for me.

I've got this problem since WinXP, too. On a normal screen and restarting the game didn't work, I had to restart the entire computer xD
According to the info I found the past few years it's because microsoft changed some important parts of Windows when they moved to WinXP. It's kinda funny that Microsoft and the developers of the game never had a clue what causes this problem ^^ |

When the color issue happens for me (and it happens VERY infrequently for me under XP) I find that minimizing and unminimizing the game with CTRL-ESC fixes it.

OK Guys, hello again =)
I just want to give you a response. My Warlord is now working on my Vista-Laptop. The -wincursor is only working with the 1.2 Patch! And since i downloaded the Patch (english) i didnt had any problems. Just funny to see that my game (normaly german, cause of the original CD) is now mixing german and english sentences after the patch. Funny thing ![]() And when i get that colour problem i just minimize and maximize the game and most time it help^^ And btw, it's still running with the compatibility of Win 2000, the only way that i can load all maps. Thank you guys very much for your help, I enjoy to play WL3 again ^-^ Greeze Depa ... I love that human griffin *_* |
