I have problems getting my escape button to act as a button for the fortifycommand (picture of the part of a castle wall in-game). Does anyone know what I should type? I tried "Defend Group" "Fortify Group" and both without the group part. I also tried "Leave & Fortify" but I'm not sure if that is valid.

According to my keys.ws3 file the Insert key is bound to 'Defend Group'. Sure enough, when I have a group selected and I hit the insert key they go into defend mode (they no longer appear in my 'next unit' button rotation).

I believe the icon you are expecting to see doesn't come until the next turn or maybe only your opponent sees that icon and you don't see it of your own armies. I forget exactly which. But Defend Group should be what you want.
