TOPIC: Oh wow!!
Oh wow!! 9 years, 11 months ago #1299
Awesome, I played this game back when I was like 8 years old. I wanted to find and try it again, and until today have been at a loss.
I found it at The Last Citadel pre-patched and ready to go. Came with K4 heroes and new maps and lots of fun. Unfortunately, I managed to get past the Compatibility mode win98 problem. But I can't minimize the window without the color breaking, forcing a complete restart. I wanted to say hi to the community and ask why my game crashes when I try to do the Campaign or Scenario? Only Random Map works. Which is still pretty good, and probably what I'll spend the most time with anyways. Is there a way to mod the rules for Army Sets? I feel a little limited when I make the perfect 8 buildables. 2000/2000 with no Mercs, or Allies. I don't mind cheating a tiny bit just to add those in. Possible boost it to 2500 or 3000, I dunno. I don't want to leave a wall of text here for my first post haha. So I'll say thanks for reading here and can't wait to meet you guys. |

Dave,
Welcome back to Warlords! DaveR wrote: Unfortunately, I managed to get past the Compatibility mode win98 problem. Whenever the color breaks for me, if I minimize the game (from the minimize menu inside the game, not from running the game in in window mode) and then un-minimize the colors are fixed. If you right click on the DLR icon, and look at the compatibility mode what is it set for? If it's set, unset it. If it's not set, set it for Win 98. I found that for running campaigns/scenarios you need it one way (on or off, I forget as I am not home right now) and for running simultaneous turns online against another player you need it another way. The version from the Last Citadel is probably set for online play and not for solo gaming. DaveR wrote: Is there a way to mod the rules for Army Sets? Take a look in the Warlords folder. There is a file called default.rul. It's just a text file. Edit it and I *believe* there is a setting for max army points and it's 2000. Increase it to whatever you want. Just remember the AI won't be able to use that boost you give yourself unless you create custom sets for the AI too. Also you won't be able to play email/online games with other players either until you put it back. KGB |

Hey thanks for replying. I managed to correct most of my problems.
When I alt tab back, I have to save and return to main menu for color glitch to correct. That works fine. I tried changing the rules before I posted. Editing the default rules changes nothing, have to create a new rule file for the changes to take effect I figured out. Been rocking 3000 army sets since, much better to add blue dragons back into merc slots since gold gets useless for me toward mid game. One more question arose though. How to increase a random map's item limit? I noticed there were 100 items in the game folder, but each random map only picks ~20 to use for that battle. Sometimes there are no artifacts at all. I have temporarily solved this by moving all 100 items to another folder and using 20 custom items that get selected each time. Though it would probably be more fun if I could just increase the limit to say 50 or all 100 per map so I get more use out of the Merchant and Selling weaker ones from ruins when I need extra gold. The game is very fun though, I got stomped when I set the map to 7 lv3 warlords with max personality points. I think if diplomacy is off they all hate you, I was getting pounded by 5 different factions per turn by turn 6. Dunno how they kept making 8/8 armies that fast. Vampire is definitely god mode though. Once you get lifedrain just stack archers and you can turtle until you get bored. I never lost to those 7 warlords, but I was stuck in my capital producing moonguards until I got bored around turn 20. |

Dave,
There is no way to increase the number of items in a particular game beyond the 20 or so the game selects. You'll have to make do with that many items The reason the AI has so many armies so fast is because with max personality points they produce super strong armies super fast and super cheap. KGB |
