TOPIC: What is the difference?
What is the difference? 9 years, 3 months ago #1373
What is the difference between Warlords II and Warlords II Delux? I'm about to go online and buy one if not both but the question does arise. I am used to the one that starts with a picture of a boat and the masked warrior saying "Greetings Warlord"
If I recall the face then goes away and I pick a scenario. I don't recall how I ever started playing this game being I keep everything and I don't have the software or the box for this game so I have no idea how I originally got so hooked. For that reason I have no idea for sure which version I found first. I recall getting Warlords III and loving it too. I actually still have it. |

From the Warlords wiki, it appears Deluxe "allowed for custom tile, army and city sets for maps and provided support for 256 colours."

I can now tell you it has several more scenarios and lots of different troops and such. The interface is a little different and the beginning video is lots different. Lots of flying around through mountains sticking out of water. I Like they offer 100 city scenarios.
I think Warlords II still feels and runs more crisply. I'm still checking it out though. Thanks! |

You should update the wiki, in case someone else has the same question

Is there a link for it here? I don't see any button here called WIKI.

No link here that I know of, but I just Googled it from when I posted earlier.

In addition to the scenarios (which are available to plain War2 via the scenario builder) there were massive changes to the armies (for the worse in my opinion).
For example Pegasi/Gryphon build time reduced from 3 to 2 turns making masses of those units dominate the game. Unicorn changed from +1 stack bonus to -2 stack bonus. Many other units underwent changes too. Ultimately though the changes to the Pegasi/Gryphons ruined the game for me so I only play the original plus scenarios. KGB |

I think I prefer Warlords II Non-Deluxe as well. I lost my first round back badly beaten by the AI and the stacks I had were getting owned. Harpies, Trolls, Giant Rats and Giant Bats are a few of the new armies I saw. My hero was well armed and was nuked early in the game and I had view armies on. I had not asked the advisor as I usually don't but I usually win and never attack with a Hero unless I'm pretty sure the day will be won. Mine died way to easily for being so loaded with a good stack of armies and magic weapons and medals of valor and stuff for certain armies.
I also struggled to tell the Hero icon from a standard troop icon. |

Are you sure you are talking about the right game?
War3 (both ROH and DLR) is the one with Harpies, Trolls, Giant Rats etc. War2 never had any of those units. It's also much more likely you were overwhelmed in War3 than War2 since it's a tougher game to get the hang of initially. KGB |

I'm not confused but do let me be clear. I am speaking of Warlords II Deluxe.
I know of DLR and I have beaten it before. It was very tough. In this instance though I am speaking of Warlords II Deluxe. the Rats look they are standing up. The harpies look like giant boobs with wings. The trolls are just a green x with a head. the Giant Bat cost 2000gp to start production and I never built any because their strength still sucked. I can take a picture I guess and show you if you like. I haven't played Walords III Dark Lords Rising in at least 3 years. I recall wishing the timing on the skeleton's voice would match the movements of his head. That also reminds me to ask another question about it. In the little video's where they show faces of soldiers are any of those people the creators of this game? |
